Drake: Every Girl...or Best I've Ever Had

I noticed few months ago that this dude, Drake, had two songs out and everybody on his jock. I mean theres hella one hit wonders nowadays when it comes to rap so I dont really give a fuck about what a lot of radio stationsClear Channel pushes. See: J-Kwon. Murphy Lee. Gorilla Zoe. etc. The thing that did catch my eye was obviously his video to Best I've Ever Had.*Though Weezy & his performance of Every girl at the BET awards with underage teens is an honorable SMH Mention.

Drake "Best I Ever Had" from kwest on Vimeo.

Its one of those TheVideoHasNothingToDoWithTheSong videos which is wack in my honest opinion (IMHO), but I'm just a critic and shit. Best I Ever Had is the anti-pimp jam and about that hella down to earth girl whose just fuckin down for you and not a video vixen, so why do more of the same Ye? Here's the thing I don't understand even more, you could easily use this video for Every Girl (We Like Her Too).

Check the lyrics and then watch it mute. [I'd download the video and show what I'm talking about using FCP, but its honestly too much work for this blog]. Well anyways, I wanna just blog out my honest thoughts about Ye's work. It could have been waaaaay better.

oh yeah if you're reading this from Facebook, these notes are automatically transfered here, so my real blog is @ http://erwinism.blogspot.com

Standard Off-Day

I know talk about this topic a lot but its been such a normal thing to me, I kinda expect it and no longer fight it.

I didn't really do toooo much or thought about anything too much, it just was another off-day. I had a deep instinct that I just wasn't internally feeling too good. I even lost my appetite for my last meal, I wasn't really hungry I just ate cuz I know I didn't eat today.

Just another day in the life.

4th of July

When I got my work schedule and realized I worked on 7/4. I've worked 4th of July's before, but always got to see fireworks. I never really tripped about working because I always got off before they started, so of course I was frustrated. So it was my uber first time never seeing fireworks, it was weird. But before work and after work were definitely highlights. I had hella good BBQ @ Paul's house, like ridiculously so good I'd punch the shit outta yer sister for it. It was like fucking crack. Its always a funny experience when I show up to Paul functions as the youngest person there until one of the homies roll by. I'm 22 and everyone else is 26+.

At work highlights: dope ass latina female came in LOL. working with CB, Adele, and Deo. & ice cream at break.

After had hella good times at Soju Town. Drunk (pitcher and soju). Cream cheese wontons. Erwin stories. Kareoke. Drunk tweeting/txting LOL. Can't really ask for more. So by the end of the night, I honestly felt real good about the holiday and thought it was one of the better ones I had in awhile.

Chyea. So the point of the recap is, I could honestly care less about fireworks on 'Independence Day'. Imma quote CB's brother when he was schooling CB and I about SD nightlife, but still applies here.

The Grilling

His car pulled into the driveway as he put the car in park he knew what was coming once he stepped into his house. He looked at the dashboard to desperately check if his parents were going to be there. 7PM. Yep, he was gonna get it and there was no avoiding it. No running straight into the room anymore. He knew he had to man up for his mistakes. He left his car and walked into the house with his head up high. He turns into the kitchen and both parents were sitting ready. The dining table turns into a makeshift interrogation room, only if they taught 'how to survive interrogation techniques' in high school things would be a little better.

All 3 in the room makes eye contact and it begins,"Son are you fucking stupid?" The first of many redundant questions to come. "How many times can you get a fucking parking ticket in a week? Is 5 even legal?!"

Too old for a beating, but never too young to hear it. "Sometimes I'm surprised you're in college honestly with all the stupid shit you do. But then again your still in college and your not even close to finishing right? Its been too long you're just wasting your time and money there. You might as well drop out and find a job because you're so stupid. We love you, but what the fuck son? Your smarter than this. Your fucking stupid for putting your family through this."

His eyes don't focus on their eyes but he looks past their heads and tries to daydream to escape this grilling. In his mind he's taken to the beach. A beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze. The water is clean as it can get. The smell of salt water floats in the air completing his memory. Then he gets slammed back to reality as his father raised his voice again to get under his skin.

"What are you doing with your life? It just seems pointless. Are you as stupid as your friends? or are you the smartest of the bunch? God dammit. Join the military, find a job, do something. Maybe college wasn't for you. We try so hard to provide but you spit it up and give it right back. We're done trying-"

"Are we done here?"

His mother and father look at each other and give a subtle nod. "Yeah we're done."

He turns around and heads towards the stairs and finally into his room. The door closes and a single tear drops from his eye. He doesn't bother to wipe it. Just another battle lost.

Asians are cool enough...FOR ANIMATION

So I just watched the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. I just realized what it says about Asian people. We're not cool enough for real, legitimate, un-stereotypical lead roles, BUT we're cool as fuck to have animated lead roles. I knew the first part of that already, just the animated thing just clicked now. Just don't know if that's enough to nullify our shafting via mainstream media.

that vs this:

How you gon tell me Avatar isn't Asian, and then cast a white kid??

Okay let's talk about other cool Asian animated characters...

American Dragon: Jake Long. (voiced by Dante Basco)
Homeboy looks mestizo but he's actually not that bad. If it was made into a movie, < %50 chance an Asian kid gets casted.

Ni Hao, Kai-Lan. Dora & Diego's Asian friend on the block. Nothing really to say about the Tokidoki-esque style of characters, but yeah we're cool on Nick still.

and of course...

vs...

Dragonball. Even Kevjumba said so, "we had no Asian superheroes growing up."

fuck that shit

Those 2AM-5AM Calls

I remember back in high school and going through drama I always wanted to keep my phone on during the night because in case of an emergency I'd be needed for something I'd just be a call away or some bullshit. I totally felt fine and happy with it. I wasn't needed for anything hella drastic in high school, no suicide attempts through the phone, pick up somebody stranded hella far from Mira Mesa. Maybe some venting here and there, but that was it. I know I'd lose sleep but I seriously wouldn't mind, especially if it was for a friend who really needed it.

Okay so that was high school.

Now in college/being 22 I kinda dread someone calling me between 2am-5am. More because I always have feelings it would be a drunk dial. But the funny thing is, I've never received a drunk dial. LOL. If anything, I did drunk text/twitter. FML -_-. Since I kinda experience doing the drunk (insert technological communication device), I'd hate receiving one. And plus if something happens and needs communicating between said hours. This is how one would decipher priorities at the time:

  1. Did I get ditched by the people I was with, leaving me stranded with no ride, and my roommates/gf/bf aren't avavailble? Call a cab. If you call me, you owe me fucking big.
  2. Is this a life threatening moment? Yes? Call 911. The fuck would I do?
  3. Am I intoxicated? Don't do it period, unless its #1 situation.
  4. Do I need advice on a topic that is keeping me awake til this moment of time? See number 5.
  5. Can this moment seriously wait til tomorrow morning? It is what it is. If its just a random thought, just do it through status update (FB&Twitter)
Nowadays since my phone eats through battery with all the internet use I do, I really get tempted to turn my phone off, but for moments like #1 I keep it on. Even when I have a family of my own later in life I would keep my phone because if my child was out and didn't come home I'd worry and want to call non-stop and shit.

But til then, its just watever.
